How We do

Child Safeguarding Policy

  • Zero-tolerance on child abuse.
  • Staff & volunteer background checks (police verification).
  • Code of conduct for staff/volunteers.
  • Confidential reporting & mandatory reporting protocol to authorities.

POCSO Act Child sexual offences protection.

Despite the enactment of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012, child sexual abuse remains a pervasive issue in India. A significant gap exists in public awareness and professional training, which hinders effective reporting, intervention, and justice delivery.

Avpravah Foundation is committed to creating safe, inclusive, and gender, age, religion, region sensitive environments in schools, homes, colleges, society at large through structured training and awareness initiatives. The Foundation conducts and organises sessions which are designed to empower schools and residents with the knowledge and tools required for full POCSO compliance.

Areas of Expertise

  • Increase awareness: Educate communities on the provisions of the POCSO Act and the signs of child sexual abuse.
  • Empower children: Equip children with knowledge on personal safety, appropriate and inappropriate touch, and their rights under the law.
  • Strengthen reporting mechanisms: Train frontline professionals on their mandatory reporting duties and the child-friendly reporting process.
  • Create safer spaces: Work with institutions like schools and child care centers to develop and implement robust child protection policies.

Problem Statement

Child sexual abuse is a significant threat to the well-being and development of Indian children. A range of factors exacerbate this issue:

  • Lack of awareness: Many adults, including caregivers and community members, are unaware of the POCSO Act’s provisions and their legal obligations to report abuse.
  • Societal stigma: The taboo and stigma associated with sexual abuse often prevent victims and their families from coming forward.
  • Inadequate reporting: Fear, lack of knowledge about reporting procedures, and skepticism towards the justice system lead to the underreporting of cases.
  • Limited professional training: Frontline professionals who interact with children often lack the specialized training needed to recognize and respond to cases of child sexual abuse with sensitivity.

Project Goals and Objectives

  • Goal: To build a safer and more protective environment for children by increasing awareness and providing specialized training on the POCSO Act.
  • Objectives:
Objective 1 (Awareness): Conduct at least 20 community awareness workshops for parents, community leaders, and caregivers within 12 months.
  • Objective 2 (Training): Deliver specialized training sessions to at least 500 professionals (including teachers, healthcare workers, and law enforcement) within one year.
  • Objective 3 (Child Education): Conduct age-appropriate sessions on personal safety, consent, and “good touch, bad touch” for at least 2,000 children.
  • Objective 4 (Policy Support): Partner with 5 local schools and 3 child care institutions to assist them in drafting and implementing their Child Protection Policies (CPPs), including internal reporting mechanisms.

Target Beneficiaries

  • Direct Beneficiaries: Children aged 5-18, parents, teachers, and other professionals who interact with children in the selected target area.

Domestic Violence Act protection & relief for women.

Domestic violence remains a widespread and devastating issue, with significant underreporting due to social stigma, fear of retaliation, and a lack of awareness regarding available legal and support mechanisms. This project proposes a comprehensive and multi-faceted initiative, “Safe Homes, Strong Communities,” designed to address domestic violence through targeted training, community awareness campaigns, and the establishment of a robust support network. By empowering individuals to recognize, report, and respond to domestic violence, we can work towards breaking the cycle of abuse and fostering safer, more equitable communities.

Problem Statement

Domestic violence is a persistent human rights violation with severe physical, psychological, and economic consequences for survivors and their families. Key issues include:

  • Widespread underreporting: Many survivors do not seek help due to fear, shame, and a lack of trust in official systems.
  • Low awareness: Many community members, including victims, are unaware of the legal protections under the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, 2005 (in India) and other relevant statutes.
  • Inadequate institutional response: Frontline workers, including police, healthcare providers, and community leaders, may lack the training to handle domestic violence cases with sensitivity and legal knowledge.
  • Systemic barriers: Societal attitudes that blame the victim and normalize abuse create a hostile environment for those seeking help.

Project Goals and Objectives

Goal: To reduce the incidence of domestic violence and enhance the support system for survivors in [Target Area] by building awareness and capacity within the community.

Objectives

  • Objective 1 (Awareness): Conduct at least 25 community awareness workshops for men, women, and youth in [Target Area] over 12 months to increase knowledge of domestic violence, its impacts, and legal protections.
  • Objective 2 (Training): Deliver specialized, trauma-informed training to at least 500 frontline professionals (police officers, healthcare workers, social workers) to improve their response to and handling of domestic violence cases.
  • Objective 3 (Survivor Empowerment): Establish and promote a network of support services (counseling, legal aid, shelter access) for at least 300 survivors over the project period.
  • Objective 4 (Community Mobilization): Engage with local community leaders, Self-Help Groups (SHGs), and youth advocates to develop sustainable, community-led initiatives for domestic violence prevention.

Target Beneficiaries

  • Primary Beneficiaries: Women and girls experiencing or at risk of domestic violence; frontline professionals responding to domestic violence cases.
  • Secondary Beneficiaries: Community leaders, families, and men who will be engaged in awareness programs and empowered to challenge gender-based violence.

Project Methodology and Activities

  • Community Workshops: Organize interactive sessions in community centers, religious institutions, and schools. Sessions will cover types of domestic violence, identifying red flags, the legal framework (including the Domestic Violence Act), and support resources.
  • Gender Sensitization Sessions: Conduct workshops with men and boys to address harmful gender norms and promote healthy, equitable relationships.
  • Media and Social Media Campaign: Use local media, social media, and street plays to disseminate key messages and helpline information widely.
  • Professional Training: Deliver specialized workshops to police officers, healthcare providers, and legal aid workers on victim-centered approaches, trauma-informed care, and legal procedures.
  • Resource Development: Create a centralized database of local support services, including shelters, counseling, and legal aid, and disseminate it to the public and professionals.
  • Establish Referral System: Build a robust referral network with local shelters and legal aid organizations to provide comprehensive support for survivors.
